Petal Cascade
Two gardens in bloom, their petals carried away by the same gentle wind — hand-painted in rose, lavender and coral on luminous white silk.

The Soul of the Artwork
Some paintings are made to hang on a wall. This one was made to move.
In "Petal Cascade," artist Gamze Haberal captures the exact moment a garden surrenders to the wind — the point at which a flower stops being a flower and becomes something freer: a drift of color, a scatter of light, a memory. Two dense, richly painted bouquets anchor the upper and lower thirds of the shawl — clusters of hand-painted blooms in deep rose, soft lavender, warm coral, and vivid violet, layered with a complexity that rewards close looking. Between them, individual petals break free, floating across the pure white silk ground in smaller and smaller traces, until the center of the shawl is almost entirely white — almost still — before the next garden begins below.
This diagonal narrative — from fullness to emptiness to fullness again — gives the composition a rhythm that mirrors the movement of the silk itself. As the shawl flows and turns, the cascade appears to move with it, the petals lifting and resettling with each step.
Gamze Haberal built this work using a complex layering technique within each bloom: cool purple laid against warm coral, a wash of rose over an underdry of ivory, each petal a small study in the way color transforms when it touches silk. Scattered among the drifting petals are fine circular dots in deep pink — the artist's punctuation marks, placed with precision but never without feeling.
This shawl was painted once, in a single unrepeatable session. No second version exists.
The Luxury of Pure Silk
The white ground of this composition is not simply background — it is an active material, chosen with intention. 100% pure 9-momme mulberry silk at this weight carries the quality of natural light: it glows, it breathes, and it allows the hand-painted pigments to appear lit from within rather than applied from without. The rose and lavender blooms seem to float above the surface, the scattered petals casting no shadow, existing in a perpetual state of gentle suspension. Against the skin, the silk is weightless. In motion, it behaves like air made visible.
Why This Artwork?
"Petal Cascade" is the piece that stops people mid-conversation. Not because it shouts — but because it is so entirely, unmistakably made by hand. The density of each bouquet, the deliberate scatter of each drifting petal, the way the composition breathes in its center — none of this happens by accident, and none of it can be reproduced by any process other than a painter, a brush, and an undivided hour of attention.
The edges are finished with a fully hand-rolled hem, stitched by hand without a single pass through a machine — a couture finish that gives the silk its characteristic soft, rounded drape and ensures that the boundary between the painting and the world it enters is as considered as everything within it.
